Domain Whois Questions

What is a domain whois?

Whois is a service that shows a domain’s registration record: whether the domain is taken, which registrar it was registered through, when it was registered and when it expires, its status, and the nameservers it uses.

Where does the whois data on this page come from?

The data comes straight from the registry of each extension. We use RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), the official successor to WHOIS, and classic WHOIS for extensions that do not support RDAP yet. For .id domains the data comes from PANDI.

Why is the domain owner’s information not shown?

Many registries now hide the owner’s personal details to comply with data protection rules. This page only shows technical registration data: registrar, dates, status and nameservers.

What does the status "Transfer locked by registrar" (client transfer prohibited) mean?

The registrar has locked the domain so it cannot be moved without permission. This is a normal security setting. If you want to transfer the domain, ask your current registrar to unlock it and give you the EPP code.

The domain I searched for is already taken. What can I do?

Try another extension such as .id, .co.id or .my.id, or a different variation of the name. If the domain is yours, you can transfer it to Jetorbit.

Does an "available" result mean the domain can definitely be registered?

Almost always, but final availability is checked when you place the order. Some names may be reserved by the registry or classed as premium domains, and extensions such as .co.id have their own document requirements.
